It could be the rhythm of a train, the sound of traffic, the jingle of wind chimes, or pounding on a construction site. It could even be the unusual sounds of a bus conversation in a language you don’t understand. Some found music in the storm. Music is everywhere, not just what other people have written. The trick is to listen. Just listen. Don’t over analyze or focus too much. Just listen. Let the sound come to you. Then absorb it.

Another obvious place to get inspiration is other people’s music. It’s no coincidence that most of today’s great composers and lyricists have extensive record collections. They listen to what others are doing.

Step 2. Record
